England have been crowned U20 World Cup winners following a 1-0 victory over Venezuela.

Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin grabbed the only goal of the game in the 35th minute, as he reacted sharply to seeing an initial effort stopped to roll into the back of the net.

Paul Simpson’s side held firm from that point, but only after surviving a second-half scare.

Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman helped to get the Young Lions over the line as he kept out a penalty from Penaranda – after VAR technology had been used to confirm the awarding of a spot-kick.

England are now toasting their first success in a FIFA recognised tournament since Bobby Moore lifted the World Cup on home soil in 1966.
