Mohun Bagan were 3-0 winners over DSK Shivajians at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack in the Federation Cup Group B opener.

A Balwant Singh brace (24', 71') and a Darryl Duffy strike in between (65') saw off the meek challenge of the Shivajians who failed to get on the scoresheet.

The Mariners crafted the first real chance of the match in the 12th minute when Sony Norde found Yusa Katsumi in the box with a delightful chip. The Japanese chested it down and played it on to Duffy whose shot was somehow parried away by Soiram Poirei in goal while Katsumi was caught offisde as he looked to pounce on the rebound.

Sony continued to put the Shivajians under the sword and his switch to the right flank in the 24th minute worked wonders. Dancing past Narzary and Lalrinzuala with ease, he found Balwant in the box with a pin point cross that the striker headed in expertly.

Balwant tested Poireri just about four minutes later as Sony found him again with a perfect delivery but this time the goalkeeper made amends as he punched it out for a corner.

Shivajians saw their first chance of the match blocked by Pritam Kotal after Sanju Pradhan had found Narzary darting into the box.

The side from Pune came out all guns blazing in the second half with the players pressing for an equaliser.

The pacy Sony Norde took full advantage of that and was played on by Duffy on the counter but his angled shot towards the far corner was again parried out by an alert Poirei.

At the hour mark, Balwant failed to keep the ball down after Sehnaj had found him ont he edge of the box. Almost immediately after, Juan Quero punched a shot over the bar with the Mohun Bagan defense breathing a sigh of relief.

Sony Norde raked up yet another assist as his corner kick was headed in by Darryl Duffy in the 65th minute as he took full advantage of the confusion in the box after the ball took a meaty deflection off Eduardo.

As Darryl Duffy made way for Jeje Lalpekhlua in the 73rd minute, the Mizoram born striker made it 4-0 in added time as he was put in one-on-one against Shane McFaul and dummied the defender with aplomb as he buried the ball past a hapless Poirei to add the icing on the cake.

Mohun Bagan next take on Shillong Lajong who went down against Bengaluru FC while DSK Shivajians are up against the Blues.
