Portugal secure third place in the 2017 Confederations Cup thanks to Adrien Silva’s penalty in the first half of extra time. They had to do it the hard way though, with Pepe scoring a stoppage time equaliser in normal time after Andre Silva had missed a first half penalty and Luis Neto had turned the ball into his own net to give Mexico the lead. That’s all from us for today, thanks for joining us and we hope you can join us again soon.

Full-time: Portugal 2-1 Mexico

120'+1' Mexico have one last chance as Quaresma concedes a free-kick on the left-hand side. With Ochoa having come up for the free-kick Fabian swings it in towards him, but Portugal head the ball clear, and that should be that.

119' There are huge appeals for a penalty from Moreno as he’s bundled to ground by Pepe at the near post moments after Patricio reacted quickly to make a smart save low to his right. Juan Carlos Osorio is absolutely furious that his side were not awarded a penalty and he’s been send to the stands by the referee.

117' Jonathan dos Santos loses the ball to Andre Silva on halfway and the striker has space ahead of him, but the referee rules that he has fouled the Mexico midfielder while stealing possession away from him.

115' That red card appears to have deflated Mexico a little, although they are still pushing forward but not with as much energy.

112' Yellow/Red Raúl Alonso Jiménez Rodríguez

Red card!! Mexico are down to 10 men too now as Rodriguez, like Semedo a few minutes ago, is shown a second yellow card for a high boot. Eliseu was the man on the receiving end of it.

111' Close! William spreads the ball wide to Quaresma on the right-hand side and the winger cuts inside onto his left foot before shooting towards goal, but his shot deflects off Moreno and loops onto the roof of the net.

109' William goes to ground close to halfway as he looks to break away on the counter attack but the referee isn’t interested and waives play on. Portugal are sitting extremely deep now.

106' Yellow/Red Nélson Cabral Semedo Red Card!! Semedo is shown a second yellow card for a high boot on Lozano, and Portugal must play the rest of the game with 10 men.

106' Kick-off! Portugal get the second period of extra time underway.

105' Adrien Silva now concedes a soft free-kick midway through his own half on the left-hand side which is swung into the area, but Portugal deal with it easily and break away downfield, where Quaresma draws a save from Ochoa with a powerful low shot from the right-hand corner of the area.

104' Penalty Goal Adrien Sebastian Perruchet Silva GOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!! Adrien Silva sends Ochoa the wrong way and fires Portugal back ahead from the spot.

103' Martins looks to flick the ball over the top of Layun and it bounces off the defenders’ arm, prompting the referee to point to the spot.

103' PENALTY TO PORTUGAL!!!

101' The game is just starting to become a little bit scrappy now as one or two crunching tackles are made which causes several players from both sides to run in. The Mexico players perhaps have a case though as Gomes' challenge was a poor one.

99' Eliseu goes for goal from the free-kick and strikes it well, but the ball flies narrowly over the bar with Ochoa sprawling away to his right.

98' Yellow Card Héctor Alfredo Moreno Herrera

Andre Silva wins a free-kick following a foul by Moreno 30 yards out from goal. The defender is shown a yellow card for the foul and Portugal have a free-kick in a dangerous area.

95' Portugal would have hoped that the momentum would be with them following that late goal but it’s Mexico who’ve started extra time the better.

93' CHANCE!! A huge chance for Mexico as the ball breaks to Lozano at the back post from a corner, but he’s denied at point blank range by Patricio.

91' Kick-off! Mexico get extra time underway.

Portugal 1-1 Mexico. The referee blows his whistle to signal the end of 90 minutes and the game will be going to extra time following Pepe’s dramatic late equaliser.

90'+1' Assist Ricardo Andrade Quaresma Bernardo Quaresma has looked lively since coming on and that was a wonderful delivery for Pepe to get on the end of.

90'+1' Goal Kléper Laveran Lima Ferreira GOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! Pepe draws Portugal level!!! Quaresma swings in a delightful cross from the right-hand side and Pepe gets ahead of Layun to stick out a leg and divert the ball into the corner from six yards out.

90'+1' We’re into the first of four minutes of added time now as Portugal press for a late equaliser.

89' Now Lozano thinks he’s clean through on goal down the left-hand side but like Quaresma moments ago, he is denied the chance to get a shot away by the linesman’s flag.

87' Andre Silva plays a delightful ball over the top of the Mexico defence which Quaresma controls on the right-hand edge of the penalty area, but the flag goes up against the winger for offside so the chance is gone.

84' Patricio is by far the busier of the two keepers now, although this time it’s a much more comfortable save as he skips across to his right and catches Vela’s curling 25-yard effort.

83' Save!! A chance for Mexico to put this game to bed as Hernandez gets in behind the Portugal defence down the left-hand edge of the penalty area, only to be denied to Patricio who comes quickly off his line to block the shot from a tight angle.

79' Mexico have just dropped a little deeper in the last couple of minutes and Hernandez now looks pretty isolated as the lone striker as he concedes a foul while jumping for the ball.

77' Portugal work the ball into Quaresma inside the right-hand edge of the penalty box and with very little support, the substitute attempts an audacious lob over Ochoa from a tight angle, but gets it horribly wrong and the ball goes across the face of goal and comfortably wide.

74' This game is starting to become pretty stretched and Mexico are finding space in behind the Portugal defence with relative ease now Portugal push for an equaliser.

72' Fernando Santos is on the edge of his technical area barking instructions to his players as Pepe wins a corner with an ambitious 25-yard shot. The corner comes to nothing though.

69' Layun gets away from Eliseu to get a left-footed cross in from the right-hand side which Semedo has to head behind for a corner at the back post. Layun then jogs across to take the corner, which Portugal clear with relative ease.

67' Hernandez brings Pepe to ground and is penalised for the challenge. He certainly doesn’t agree with that decision and appears to be in disbelief that the referee has given the foul against him.

65' Close! This game has come to life in the last few minutes and Mexico very nearly double their lead as Vela hits a first-time volley into the side-netting from just inside the box. He didn’t strike it cleanly but it was still a good opportunity.

62' PHENONEMAL SAVE FROM OCHOA!! Martins seems almost certain to score as he meets Moutinho’s headed cross six yards out from goal and directs a powerful header of his own towards goal, but Ochoa sticks out his left arm and turns the ball over the bar to make an outstanding reaction save. Nani then misses another golden opportunity from the resultant corner, heading wide from just seven yards out despite being completely unmarked.

60' HUGE CHANCE FOR PIZZI!!! The midfielder rolls the ball wide to Martins who gets to the byline before cutting a low cross back to Pizzi, only for him to send his first-time effort wide of the near post from 15 yards out. He had so much time then he should have hit the target at least.

58' Layun brings the ball down inside the penalty area but Pepe wins it back before being bundled to ground by Peralta. Pepe doesn’t look to happy with that challenge despite being awarded a free-kick and the referee has to calm him down.

56' Hernandez has certainly looked the most threatening player for Mexico in this game and he did well to get to the byline and get a cross in for that goal, and Mexico now look the far more dangerous side.

54' Own Goal Luis Carlos Novo Neto GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!! Mexico take the lead as Hernandez fires a low cross across the six yard box from the left-hand side which evades Patricio at the near post and bounces off Neto and into his own net.

53' CHANCE!! The best chance of this second half falls to Martins, who controls Andre Silva’s chip on his thigh before hitting a first-time volley from 10 yards out, but he can only direct it into the side-netting.

52' Nani rolls the ball across the top of the penalty box to Moutinho who has space in front of him. The midfielder chooses to cut onto his left foot and then shoot from 25 yards, but his effort is always rising and Ochoa watches it sail high over his bar.

50' Mexico look as though they’re going to pressurise the Portugal defence when they have possession and not give them any time on the ball in this second half, although they will have the chance to keep the ball now as Araujo clatters into the back of Nani and concedes a foul.

48' Portugal look to spread the ball wide to the right-hand side where Semedo has got forward well, but the right-back fails to control the ball and it rolls out of play for a throw-in, handing possession back to Mexico. 46'SAVE!!! Nearly a wonderful start to the second half for Mexico as Hernandez is denied by Patricio from just eight yards out, although the flag goes up against the striker so the goal would not have stood.

46' Kick-off! Mexico get the second period underway.

Both managers have got dangerous attacking options available at their disposal on the benches, and it might not be long before we see some changes if the scoreline remains as it is, although both sides have created chances so neither manager will be panicking at this stage.

Nothing to separate the two sides on the scoreboard, largely thanks to Ochoa’s wonderful penalty save from Andre Silva after the striker had been brought to ground by Marquez.

Half-time: Portugal 0-0 Mexico

45' Now Nani follows Hernandez in conceding a needless foul inside the Mexico half. Mexico are in no rush to take this free-kick though, it looks as though they’re quite happy to go into the break level.

43' CLOSE!! Portugal work a corner short from the right-hand side and Martins swings in a cross with the outside of the boot which is met in front of the near post by a diving Peralta, who turns the ball narrowly wide of his own goal and into the side-netting.

41' Hernandez bundles Eliseu to ground deep inside the Portugal half and concedes a foul, which was in truth pretty unnecessary as the left-back wasn’t going anywhere there.

38' Martins is causing Mexico all sorts of problems at the moment, this time driving infield from the right-hand side before firing a powerful effort towards goal from 25 yards out, which Ochoa can only punch away rather unconvincingly.

37' Vela cuts inside onto his left foot and stands up another cross into the middle where Peralta is waiting unmarked, but the flag goes up against him for offside as he fails to make clean contact with an acrobatic overhead kick.

35' Nani and Pizzi link up well once again midway through the Mexico half before feeding the ball into Martins just inside the box, but with several Mexico defenders around him, Martins can only fire his left-footed effort high over the bar on the turn.

33' Martins gets in behind the Mexico defence once again and his cross falls to Pizzi at the back post after Marquez had headed the initial ball away from Nani, but Layun gets himself out to the midfielder quickly to close him down and make a good block on the shot.

31' WHAT A SAVE FROM PATRICIO!! Vela slips a neat reverse pass into Hernandez inside the box and he cuts inside onto his left foot before firing a well-struck effort towards goal from 12 yards out, only for the Portugal goalkeeper to spring high to his right and turn the ball over the bar.

30' Aside from Andre Silva’s penalty miss it’s been a fairly even opening half an hour in this game with both sides looking a threat from wide areas without creating too many clear cut openings.

27' CLOSE!! Layun swings the resultant free-kick into an extremely dangerous area and it bounces around inside the six yard box, before Rui Patricio eventually pounces on the ball just short of the goal line and Portugal escape.

26' Yellow Card Nélson Cabral Semedo Nelson Semedo is booked for a late challenge on Hernandez on the left-hand side.

25' Lovely work from Andre Silva as he shows a nice bit of skill to skip away into space and up towards halfway, but his second touch is a poor one and he loses possession.

23' Pizzi surges forward towards the Mexico penalty area and although his initial pass towards Martins is intercepted, the ball breaks straight into his path and he hits a low shot towards goal from 12 yards out, but it takes a deflection and goes wide of the left-hand post. The referee though awards a goal kick, much to Pizzi’s frustration.

21' Mexico work the ball wide to Carlos Vela on the right-hand side and the winger stands up a cross towards Hernandez at the back post, but the cross has too much on it and is too high for the striker, bouncing harmlessly out for a goal kick.

19' That is a huge let off for Mexico, not only with the penalty being missed but Nani really should have done better with the header as he was completely unmarked on the edge of the six yard box, although he was leaning backwards slightly.

17' Penalty save Francisco Guillermo Ochoa Magaña SAVED!!!! Andre Silva rolls the ball towards the bottom corner but Guillermo Ochoa springs away to his right to turn the ball around the post. Nani then heads over the bar from just six yards out just moments later.

16' Yellow Card Rafael Márquez Álvarez Yellow card Rafael Márquez Álvarez 16'PENALTY TO PORTUGAL!!

15' There are appeals for a Portugal penalty as Marquez brings Andre Silva to ground inside the penalty box, and the referee is going to the video assistant for a review.

13' Nani drives at the Mexico defence from the left-hand side before attempting a delicate chip into the path of Martins inside the box, but it's well read by Moreno who slides in to take the ball away from the young winger.

11' Now Mexico do get their first half-chance of the game as Layun swings in a cross towards Javier Hernandez from the right-hand side, but the ball is fractionally behind the striker who fails to get on top of the header, sending the ball high over the bar from 12 yards out.

9' Portugal have made a bright start to this game and are already looking a threat going forward, although Mexico are just enjoying a short spell of possession now.

7' Martins gets into a dangerous position once again, running at the Mexico defence with the ball at his feet and he looks to slip a through ball into the path of Andre Silva ahead of him, but the striker is crowded out by several defenders and Mexico are able to clear the danger.

5' Chance! The first chance of the game falls to Portugal as Martins gets in behind the Mexico defence inside the right-hand edge of the penalty area and pulls a cross back towards Nani, but the ball is at an awkward height for the Portugal captain and he can only turn it wide of the near post from eight yards out.

4' Now Portugal win a free-kick in a dangerous area to the right of the Mexico penalty area following a foul on Gelson Martins, but Hector Herrera gets up well to head Pizzi’s delivery clear.

2' Nani concedes an early free-kick just inside his own half but Mexico work the ball across the pitch and wide to Miguel Layun on the right-hand side and the full-back wins a throw-in, but Mexico fail to make anything of the good position as Oribe Peralta knocks the ball out for a goal kick.

1' Kick-off! Referee Fahad Al Mirdasi blows his whistle and Portugal get the game underway.
