The first pictures of Michael Schumacher since he was involved in a skiing accident almost three years ago have surfaced.

A police investigation into how the images were smuggled out of the F1 legend's home in Geneva, Switzerland is underway.

A number of European media organisations have been offered the chance to purchase the exclusive photos for a staggering £1 million.

The identity of the seller is not known but prosecutors are looking into the pictures as an alleged violation of Schumacher's personal life.

Updates on the German's plight have been sporadic in the three years since as his family have attempted to keep him out of the limelight.

Sabine Kehm, Schumacher's manager, said over the weekend that there are no plans to release a statement with an update on the 47-year-old's current plight.

"Michael's health is not a public issue, and so we will continue to make no comment in that regard," Kehm said.

"We have to protect his intimate sphere. Legally seen and in the longer term, every statement related to his health would diminish the extent of his intimate sphere."
