The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) stated that a long-term roadmap for Indian football needs to be agreed upon by the end of October this year.

This decision was announced at the roundtable meeting at Kuala Lumpur where various stakeholders of Indian football attended to discuss how to create an ecosystem which shall take Indian football to the next level.

AFC offers AIFF recommendations on future roadmap in stakeholders' meeting

“The AIFF will decide the format for the short-term and there was an agreement around a road map to deliver medium and long-term plans for the game in India through a detailed process.

“Independent research would be commissioned and analysed before being evaluated by the AIFF and the stakeholders, with the decisions on the medium and long-term pathway being taken as soon as possible after the FIFA U-17 World Cup, held in India later this year,” read a statement released by the AFC.

It is believed that a stakeholder meeting will be called upon in the month of July with the final plan to be finalized by the end of October.

However, one of the attendees at the high profile meeting admitted that the idea to have a final roadmap ready in less than five months was far too ambitious.

It remains to be seen if the final plan of establishing the right structure for league football in India agreed upon October end.
