Indian Super League Exclusive - Carlos Restrepo in advanced talks with Tata Group logo 09-07-2017

It’s barely been just a month since the Tata Group, one of India’s biggest and most respected conglomerates, announced their decision to unfurl their wings and join the Indian Super League (ISL) bandwagon.

Their team would be situated in Jamshedpur, the heartbeat of the Tatas’ steel industry, and the club’s operational team are doing everything to ensure a new spine can be created to make the fledgling franchise’s bow into the nation’s most watched a successful one.

The first step starts with the coach, and the news emanating from sources close to developments is that Carlos Restrepo will handle the reins of the team this season.

A Colombian by birth, the coach’s most recent stint included one at Club Deportivo Olimpia, a Honduran Club. The season in the Honduran domestic circuit is in full flow and the 56 year-old coach’s team currently lead the standing with two rounds of matches remaining.

The Medellin-born manager saw his playing career come to a premature end in his twenties with an injury. However, his devotion coaching has seen him take takes such as Deportivo Tachira, Deportivo Pasto, Puntarenas, Independiente Medellin and so on.

His perseverance with teams such as Municipal Perez Zeledon and Brujas has seen him win the domestic championships of Costa Rica in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

His real success has however, come at age-group football where he has coached throughout the age ladder of the Colombian national football team – starting from the U16 to the U23. Most recently in 2013, it was under his tutelage that the Colombian U23 national side won the South American Youth championships. He has also coached the Liberian national football team.

With a coach with strong credentials on board the Tata’s will now hope, their ambitions are forged in steel ahead of their opening Sonata.
