NorthEast United FC are looking to retain the services of goalkeeper Rehenesh Thumbirumbu Paramba and midfielder Rowllin Borges, Goal can confirm.

Rehenesh could feature for the northeastern club for the fourth consecutive season if negotiations between the two parties reach fruition.

The custodian made only three appearances last season due to an injury and later was loaned to East Bengal. At the Kolkata outfit, he made a mixed season and was often targeted by the fans. On one occasion, he showed middle finger to the Red and Gold aficionados and was alleged to have kicked a fan as well.

Rehenesh has plied his trade for I-League teams such as ONGC, Rangdajied United and Shillong Lajong in the past.

Meanwhile, the club is yet to reach an agreement with India international Borges, who is now among the top midfielders in the country. Although they have made an offer, the former Sporting Clube de Goa player has turned down the opportunity and is believed to be waiting for an improved deal.

Borges was named All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) Emerging Player of the Year in December 2016. He is now a regular member of Stephen Constantine’s set-up in the national team.

The 25-year-old made 13 appearances for the Highlanders last season in what was his first season in the ISL with 532 passes, 794 touches and 32 interceptions. He was given limited opportunities at East Bengal but gradually established himself and earned 10 starts.

It will be interesting to see if the northeast club do manage to retain his services.
