When the teams met earlier this season in Pune, Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa put on a stand of 158 runs, partly aided by Jaydev Unadkat’s dropped catch, to complete a chase of 183 with 11 balls to spare. Pune, however, have done their best since then to revive their campaign. They beat Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions at home in the space of three days to give themselves a real chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

They are currently fourth on the table with six wins in ten games, and will draw a lot of confidence from the manner in which Ben Stokes helped them structure a successful chase of 161 against Gujarat on Monday night after being reduced to 10 for 3. Stokes remained unbeaten on 103 to be the season’s fourth centurion, and picked up his third man of the match award.Stokes had missed two games before that because of a shoulder niggle, but Pune can ill afford to lose him anymore.

From Kolkata’s perspective, they would like to put their big loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday behind them and get back to winning ways.

Kolkata seem to have a man ready for every role. The good news from the camp is that Chris Lynn would be batting for the first time at nets on Tuesday since dislocating his shoulder on April 9. He told cricket.com.au that he is aiming to return to action within a week’s time, well before the playoffs.
