Having been defeated 1-0 by Serbia in their opening clash, Ireland's securing of a 2-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina through goals from Rowan Roache and Adam Idah proved pivotal as the group stage matches came to an end on Wednesday.

The young Boys in Green looked set to be dumped out of the competition in embarrassing fashion at the hands of their German opponents, but an 80th minute goal from BiH's Armin Imamovic condemned Serbia to a 1-0 defeat in Group C's other match that was being played at the same time, allowing Ireland to move into the quarters via head-to-head results.
