England pacer James Anderson went on to become the sixth highest wicket-taker in Tests when he scalped a five-for on Day 2 of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Leeds.

The right-arm medium pacer weaved magic with the ball yet again to decimate Sri Lanka under gloomy skies at Headingley on Friday. After countryman Jonny Bairstow's show with the bat, Anderson led the swing-bowling show to send Sri Lankan batsman walking back to the hut one after the other.

SURPASSES KAPIL

In removing Angelo Mathews lbw for a team-high 34, Anderson went past Kapil Dev on the all-time list of test wicket-takers on 435. Notably, Kapil needed 227 innings to get to 434 while the England pacer got there in his 213th innings. Anderson now has 438 Test wickets from 114 matches at an average of 29.18.

Anderson, helped by the overcast conditions, joined hands with Stuart Broad to bowl out Sri Lanka for 91 in 36.4 overs. The Sri Lankan batsman had no answers to his swing and seam movement. It looked like Anderson was taking revenge for his last-over dismissal that led to Sri Lanka's historic series win on English soil in 2014.

"It was difficult to score if you hit the right areas," Anderson said. Anderson's figures of 5-16 meant Sri Lanka were forced to follow-on.

Sri Lanka's second innings was stopped on Day 2 in the very first over after bad light played spoilsport.
