On Wednesday, Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) takes on Ceres-Negros FC from Philippines in the ASEAN zone semi-final first leg of the 2017 AFC Cup. This won't be the first time that the 2015 AFC Cup champions have faced a team from Philippines.

Goal recaps JDT's record against side from Philippines.

JDT need to be wary of Ceres' shooting from distance

Since the club was rebranded in 2013 and started participating in regional cup competitions from 2015, JDT have only played three times against teams from Philippines.

One was in the 2016 AFC Cup when JDT hosted Kaya FC in the Round of 16 of the competition. The result was a resounding 7-2 win with goals coming from Martin Lucero (3), Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Azamuddin Akil (2) and Mahali Jasuli.

The other two matches were in this year's competition when they played against Global FC in the group stage of the competition. JDT won one and lost the other against the Philippines side.

Ceres's right side is the weak link in their defence that JDT must exploit

An excellent 4-0 win was achieved at Tan Sri Hj Hassan Yunos Stadium in March with goals coming from Mahali, Safiq Rahim, Brian Ferreira and Marcos Antonio.

However, an indifferent first half at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila during the match in April, saw JDT succumbing to a 3-2 defeat having allowed the home side to take a 3-0 lead into half time. Gabriel Guerra's brace in the second half wasn't enough for JDT to overturn the result.
