The Duchess of Cambridge is to attend the Wimbledon tennis championships when it starts on Monday.

Tennis lover Kate, now Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, will meet some of the ball boys and girls ahead of play on 3 July.

The Duchess will also meet a number of staff who play a pivotal role each year in putting on the world famous Championships including the tournament's stewards and its medical and safety teams.

Kate became patron of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, which hosts the Wimbledon championships - after The Queen enjoyed 64 years in the role.

As a lifelong tennis fan, the 35-year-old royal is thrilled following the move.

While Kate is a regular face in the royal box at Wimbledon, the Queen has attended the championships just three times since her first appearance in 1957.
