Henri Lansbury struck an 87th-minute equaliser to earn Nottingham Forest a 2-2 draw at Aston Villa in an entertaining English Championship encounter.

The match at a sun-soaked Villa Park was the first time two former European Cup winners had met in England's second tier. Greek striker Apostolos Vellios put Forest ahead in the 57th minute with a stunning right-foot shot from 25 yards.

Jordan Ayew teed up Ross McCormack for the equaliser and two minutes later set up Rudy Gestede to hook in an effort that gave Villa a 74th-minute lead. But former Arsenal midfielder Lansbury equalised late on, stroking the ball home with the outside of his right foot after a barrelling run by Hildeberto Pereira.

Pereira was sent off moments later after being shown a second yellow card for running into the crowd in celebration.
