Ferrari and Mercedes have gone in very different directions with their tyre selections for the Bahrain GP.

The Silver Arrows drivers have opted for just one set of the medium compound tyres, compared to the two Scuderia drivers who have both selected three sets of the hardest compound available. Mercedes' one set of mediums is mandatory.

The choices were made 13 weeks ago, so Mercedes race-winning decision to use the medium tyres during the Australian GP will not have impacted on Ferrari's decision.

This strategy means the Silver Arrows will have six sets of the soft tyres available for the race weekend compared to the Scuderia's four.

Other standout choices are the seven sets of soft tyres picked by Toro Rosso's Max Verstappen, while both Williams drivers have selected seven sets of the supersoft compound.

New regulations for 2016 see the Italian manufacturer bring three compounds of tyres to each race, with drivers allowed to pick 10 of the 13 sets in their allocation.

This led to a number of different strategies being employed during the season-opening Australian GP.
