The Mexican national team is ready to get rolling in Russia.

After winning the CONCACAF Cup playoff against the United States to earn a place at the 2017 Confederations Cup, El Tri are carrying a strong squad into the practice run for the 2018 World Cup.

Mexico not focused on Ronaldo

Mexico competed in the 2013 Confederations Cup but lost its first two matches against Brazil and Italy and, despite topping Japan in the final group game, was bounced before the knockout rounds.

Things look a bit more friendly this time around, with the opening match against Portugal looking like the most difficult of the side's three group games.

Group B features South American champion Chile, African champion Cameroon, World Cup champion Germany and Asian champion Australia.

The two groups will compete in a round-robin format with the top two teams after three rounds of group play advancing to the semifinals.
