Minnesota United fell 5-1 in its first game as a Major League Soccer franchise.

The scoreline may not do full justice the showing from the expansion franchise, though the Portland Timbers were very deserving of the win, with three goals coming late on after the visiting side had pulled to within one.

Lawrence Olum opened the scoring just 14 minutes into the match, but the Timbers had to wait until after the break to find a second through Diego Valeri.

Christian Ramirez made history, scoring the first goal in MNUFC's MLS history in the 69th to make it a 2-1 game, but Portland responded by pouring in three more goals.

First, Valeri netted from the spot after Fanendo Adi earned a penalty, and then Adi rolled in two in the dying minutes to give the game its lopsided final.
