Ligue 1 champions Monaco are leading the hunt for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, Goal understands.

The Belgium international only moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2016, with a £33.2 million deal taking him to England from Marseille.

Chelsea quoted £100m for Lukaku

He arrived on the back of a 23-goal season in France, but found regular game time hard to come by with the Blues as Diego Costa led their charge towards the Premier League crown.

Batshuayi did score the title-clinching effort in a late-season victory over West Brom, but he ended the campaign with just nine efforts to his name and only one league start.

The 23-year-old is now weighing up his options with next summer’s World Cup finals in Russia taken into account.

He knows that he needs regular game time in order to make the Belgian squad and is aware that he may struggle to find those minutes at Chelsea, even with Costa seemingly heading for the exits.

West Ham are among the Premier League clubs to have expressed an interest in keeping Batshuayi in the Premier League, but Monaco have emerged as favourites to secure his signature.

Costa: Conte does not want me

They are readying themselves for another shot at the Champions League in 2017-18 and are aware of the need to add greater depth to their ranks.

Radamel Falcao and Kylian Mbappe already provide exciting options up front, but uncertainty continues to shroud the future of the latter after his impressive breakthrough campaign at Stade Louis II.
