Even as Indian cricket fans are trying to make sense of their best finisher failing to close out matches, Team India's Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has come out in support of the limited-overs skipper.

Speaking to India Today Television in an exclusive interview Rahane said, "MS Dhoni is one of the best finishers in the world. We all know that. Nine times out of 10 he will win these matches. Everyone was disappointed after the loss but we gave our best. Even Dhoni bhai gave his best. It happens sometimes in sport."

Rahane was referring to India's loss in their first T20 match against West Indies in Florida last week of the final ball. Dhoni, needing 2 runs of the last ball, held out to short third man. Dhoni did play his part with a brisk 43 in a partnership with centurion KL Rahul to bring India within one run of an historic chase of 245.

Win or lose, not one to give out much, Dhoni was hurting as much as the rest of the squad. "No body likes to lose. He has won all these games for us. He was also very disappointed that we could not win," Rahane added.

A couple of months earlier Dhoni was on the wrong side of the result as well against Zimbabwe, failing to get the required five runs of the last ball. On both the occasions India needed eight runs to get in the final over with Dhoni having his opportunities to take strike.

Dhoni called it quits from Test cricket in 2014 end to focus on his limited overs career, where he has been one of India's best middle order batsmen, its most successful skipper and a finisher par excellence.

But he hasn't looked the same batsmen or captain after Test retirement and continues to look for ways to rediscover his form of old.
