Andy Murray has been seeded second for the US Open men's singles despite making all three Grand Slam finals this year.

Fellow Briton Johanna Konta has been selected 13th in the women's singles draw, a career best for the player who is ranked 14th overall in the world.

Murray will go into the US Open after this month becoming the first male tennis player to win two Olympic gold singles titles, beating Juan Martin del Potro at Rio 2016.

The Wimbledon champion's 22-match unbeaten streak came to an end in the Cincinnati Open in August, where Murray was beaten 6-4 7-5 by Marin Cilic - though Murray later revealed he had been nursing a shoulder injury during the final.

The 29-year-old Scot is ranked second in the world behind Djokovic, who will be looking to defend his title at Flushing Meadows despite having been suffering with a wrist injury in recent weeks.

Serena Williams is seeded first in the women's singles, while last year's champion Flavia Pennetta has now retired.

Britain's James Ward has already been in action in qualifying, losing to Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina 6-3 6-4, though the tournament will begin fully on August 29.
