Rangers have officially announced that Chelsea have signed their 15-year-old wonderkid Billy Gilmour for an initial fee of over £600,000.

Chelsea have beaten a large number of clubs including Manchester City to secure the player who spent the past week at Cobham Training Centre finalising legal arrangements, after agreeing the move back in March.

Rangers were ready to fast track Gilmour into their first team to keep him at the club but he was well known across Europe and attracted scouts from Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

Gilmour is currently too young to move but he will be able to so from his next birthday, which falls on June 11. He put in a string of incredible performances for his club in the Under 20s side and for his country with in the Victory Shield where he became known to European scouts.

The Ayrshire schoolboy was expected to become Rangers' youngest ever player after training with the first team, but his pathway into the first team will likely be affected by the agreement with the Premier League leaders.
