Put in to bat, RPS rode on fifties by Ajinkya Rahane (56), Manoj Tiwary (58) and MS Dhoni's 40 not out off 26 balls to post a competitive 162 for four in their 20 overs.

In reply, Mumbai Indians got off to a blazing start before the collapse. Parthiv Patel top scored with 52 but lacked support from the other end as the two-time champions were restricted to 142 for nine thanks to Man of the Match Washington Sundar's three for 16. The right-arm off-break bowle was ably supported by Shardul Thakur (3/37), Jaydev Unadkat (1/24) and Lockie Ferguson (1/21).

Rohit rued lack of partnerships as they suffered their third defeat against Pune this season.

"I think 160 was below par to be honest, having seen the scores chased here. Probably the worst batting performance of this season for us. We didn't have enough partnerships, it's crucial to get small partnerships in," Rohit said at the post match presentation ceremony.

The Mumbai skipper also praised the Pune bowlers for their impressive effort.

"They bowled well to restrict us and to take wickets in the middle overs. Shot selection is very important. You need to understand the situation and the conditions and respect them. You've to pick the gaps and take it to the end and we didn't do that. It's not the end of the world, we still have one more shot in Bangalore," he added.

Mumbai will get another shot at making the final in the Qualifier 2 on Friday. They will take on the winners between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator on Wednesday.
