Sebastian Giovinco’s return from injury Saturday turned out to be very brief, as the attacker was subbed out near the end of first half of Toronto FC’s match with Minnesota United with tightness in his quad.

The former MLS MVP had missed Toronto’s previous two contests with a heel injury as the club took wins in both Seattle and Columbus. He marked his return by scoring from the spot in the 20th minute to give his side a 1-0 lead.

However, what started as a bright comeback took a negative turn as Giovinco went down in the 43rd minute. He could not continue and was replaced by Jozy Altidore.

The injury was diagnosed as not a re-aggravation of the heel injury, but tightness in his quadriceps. Toronto coach Greg Vanney said Giovinco's removal was a precaution.

“It’s precautionary," Vanney told TSN at halftime. "He’s feeling a little bit tight in his quad and we didn’t want to push it. He was aware of it, so we took him off.”

Including his goal against Minnesota, Giovinco has scored six times in nine matches for Toronto this season.
