The 28-year-old was substituted in the 40th minute of Toronto's 0-0 draw with Sporting Kansas City on Friday, after he injured himself making a save. Alex Bono replaced him and is expected to start for TFC for the duration of Irwin's recovery.

Bono played 16 games in 2016 while Irwin recuperated from another leg injury, and started in TFC's lone victory so far this year.

Toronto's next match is at home against expansion side Atlanta United on April 8.
