Victor predicts healthy fight for Brazil’s No.1 logo 28-05-2014

Atletico Mineiro goalkeeper Victor says there is a "healthy" fight developing in the race to be Brazil’s No.1 at World Cup 2014.

The 31-year-old was selected along with Toronto FC’s Julio Cesar and Botafogo’s Jefferson in the 23-man squad that will go in search of the Selecao's sixth world title next month.

And while Julio Cesar is believed to have already cemented his place in coach Luiz Felipe Scolari’s first team, 2013 Copa Libertadores winner Victor believes the trio’s battle for a starting role will only strengthen the positive atmosphere in the camp.

"It will be a very healthy fight, with respect and a lot of camaraderie,” said Victor.

“When that happens and everyone tries hard and the technical level gets even higher. The national team can only triumph with that and the fans will know that they'll have a great keeper regardless.

"I have had the chance to spend some time with most of the players here,” he continued.

“I have noticed that the humility and the togetherness of this group is very strong. I was very well received. The atmosphere here is great.”

Victor missed out on a place in Dunga’s World Cup squad in 2010 but believes he has grown in the four years since and is, therefore, delighted to have finally achieved his "dream".

“In 2010, it didn't work out because I wasn't ready yet,” he continued.

“The time since then has been good for me to grow up as a player. I'm more mature now."
