Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir decided to bury the hatchet and shared a laugh during India's training session on the eve of their second Test against New Zealand at the Eden Gardens.

Gambhir returned to the national team after two years following a hamstring injury to Lokesh Rahul. Coach Anil Kumble was reportedly adamant on Gambhir after the Delhi southpaw's consistent run at the Duleep Trophy.

Kohli and Gambhir, both players from Delhi, were believed to be at loggerheads. The two had been involved in two ugly public spats during the Indian Premier League.

In fact, once Gambhir, who leads the Kolkata Knight Riders and Kohli, who captains the Royal Challengers Bangalore, had to be separated by players on the field after a particularly nasty argument.

However, Kohli has matured as a captain and is a respected leader in the side. He would have undoubtedly extended an olive branch to his senior state teammate. Kohli has so far overseen eight victories in 18 Tests as captain.

It remains to be seen whether Gambhir, who has nine hundreds from 56 Tests, gets a chance to take on the Black Caps. India also have the option of playing Shikhar Dhawan, who has been going through a bit of a lean patch recently.
