Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly

Possibly the most powerful friendship in Indian cricket history over the past two decades, Tendulkar and Ganguly thrived alongside each other on the batting pitch as openers and have been close friends off it. In an interview, Ganguly recalled how Tendulkar supported him when he had a fallout with coach Greg Chappell in 2005. He said, "Sachin stood up for me when Sir Greg Chappell kicked me out of the team. He spoke to Mr Sharad Pawar, who was then the Board president, telling him that I’d been wronged.… I’ll always be grateful to Sachin."
