Famous for being the cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong, a village about 90 kms away from Shillong in Meghalaya is like a breath of fresh air. In a country where villages are typically associated with zero development, this village will leave you beautifully surprised with its natural beauty and hospitable residents. Let us take a look at 7 reasons why Mawlynnong is truly special.

God's own garden

A botanist's dreamland, Mawlynnong has over a hundred different varieties of plants, making it an extremely beautiful and naturally abundant destination to visit. The village looks so green and beautiful that one will forget they are in a village and think they have just entered some luxury resort!

Wonderful people

The village is resided by close to 100 families who welcome you with warm smiles and open arms. These families that include little children and puppies would be happy to play with you and click pictures with you while the adults educate you on their way of life.

Foodie’s delight

There are a bunch of cafes and eateries situated inside the village, offering a variety of cuisines from Indian to Asian at prices that are economical, flavours that are simple and an experience that is authentic.

Amazing scenery

#MeghalayaDiaries . One of the best view point ever. The moment we took a couple of steps down to reach the living root bridge at #mawalynnong We found ourselves amidst a touristy crowd, clicking selfies and with the umbrellas open, even when there was no rain. I had a feeling that we stepped into a 'chhata party' Just when you cross the bridge and come to the other side, there's a small trail that goes all the way up leading to a viewpoint. As the initial access is through steps, its often neglected by a lot of tourists. But am glad we took the trail, which passed through a quaint little village and finally led to a viewpoint. What made this viewpoint special, apart from the view, was that it was entirely built of bamboo and that too by the villagers. . . #EatTravelLiveRepeat #ETLRTravelDiaries2017 #theetlrblog #TravelWithETLR #highOnHimalayas #meghalayatourism #northeastindia #sohra #roadtripping #meghalaya #shillongdiaries
