This place holds great importance in Hindu mythology. In addition of being a popular tiger reserve, this park is home to many endangered wildlife species such as the Assam roofed turtle, hispid hare, golden langur and pygmy hog. The area is divided into 3 ranges. The western range is situated at Panbari, the central at Bansbari, and the eastern at Bhuyipara near Pathsala.
