Bengaluru molestation: Minister terms episode conspiracy to defame city

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara addressed the press today, speaking on the recent incidents of women getting molested in Bengaluru. Parameshwara promised to make the city a safer place for women while calling the entire episode a conspiracy to defame the state's Congress government and the city of Bengaluru in particular. He said that the media had misquoted him when it reported him saying "these things do happen" in response to the instances of molestation. Earlier this week, shocking reports of women in Bengaluru getting pawed and molested on New Year's Eve emerged. This was followed by CCTV footage of a woman getting groped and violently assaulted coming to light. Speaking about the latter incident, which took place in Bengaluru's Kamanahalli area, Parameshwara said that an FIR has been registered and that enough evidence has been gathered via CCTV images.
