Bengaluru lakes turn poisonous: Residents cry for help

Bengaluru's Bellandur lake was once again in news on February 16 when it caught fire. Right in the centre of the lake filled with weeds, a fire raged that went on for at least 5 hours. It was only after the residents called the fire force that the situation was brought under control with much difficulty. V arious government officials including members of Bangalore Development Authority visited the spot and promised action within 3 months. But the residents were not convinced since these promises have been made umpteen number of times in the past as well.On February 18, residents came out in large numbers to show their displeasure with the present situation and are now demanding immediate action."I wrote many letters to the ministries and authorities concerned but nobody responded. So, I started this petition and I received lot of support. Many people wanted this change but did not know how to go about it," said the petitioner Sanchita.
