Feminists In Latin America rally against violence towards women

Feminists rallied in cities across Latin America on Wednesday (November 25) to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The 25N movement behind the protests, wants government action against a rise in sexual violence, crimes against women, and hate crime against transgender people. They also want abortion to be decriminalised. Demonstrators in Chisec in the centre of Guatemala, were seen waving purple flags and raising placards marching downtown. Feminists also rallied in Mexico City, Mexico, and in the Colombian capital, Bogota. An estimated 99,000 women were victims of violence in Colombia between January and October this year, according to Colombia’s Medical Examiner’s Office. Footage shows, in order, Guatemala (flare smoke and drums), Mexico City (people in white T-shirts with purple lettering) and Colombia (gathered outside a building).
