Shocker from Visakhapatnam: Two workers die of gas leak in pharma city

Two contract workers died in Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City at Parawada on the outskirts of the Port city in the wee hours of Monday after inhaling poisonous gasses released from the effluent treatment plant. The youth aged below 22 years were identified as Peddireddy Manikantha and Annamreddy Durga Prasad. According to sources, the incident took place in the wee hours of Monday. Both Manikantha and Prasad attended the night shift and were on the night shift at an intermediary treatment plant, which is linked to the main treatment plant located around two to three kilometers away from the pharma units. The main treatment plant treats the effluents discharged by around 80 units in the Pharma City. The deceased contract workers Manikantha and Durga Prasad are on duty at the intermediary treatment plant or pumphouse. At the time of the incident, the duo was checking the levels of the wastage and opened the valve. They inhaled the gasses that leaked from the treatment plant and collapsed. Both were shifted to a hospital and cops are investigating.
