Rain or snowfall likely at Gairsain during Session, mercury to dip

Dehradun: Rain or snowfall is expected to lash the higher reaches of Chamoli district during Vidhan Sabha Budget session of the State Assembly scheduled to start from March 20. Notably, the Budget session would be held at Gairsain in Chamoli district.

A Met official said that western disturbances now approaching the State would trigger the wet spell in the higher reaches of Chamoli and some other districts for a couple of days from March 20. Due to the expected rain or snowfall on March, 20, March 21 and March 22, the temperature is expected to dip by a few degrees in the higher reaches of the State, weathermen said.

Uttarakhand meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said on Tuesday that very light to light rain/thunder showers is likely to occur at isolated places especially in the hills of Garhwal region on Wednesday while the climate would remain dry in the rest of the State.

Dehradun was warm on Tuesday as the maximum temperature soared 32.4 degree Celsius, four notches above the normal, while the minimum settled at 14.7 degree Celsius, three notches above the normal. The highest maximum temperature of the state 33.0degC was recorded at Jaspur in Udham Singh Nagar district while the lowest minimum temperature 5.6degC was recorded at Matela in Almora district.

As per the weather report sent by the Met department, in Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 32.2 degree Celsius and 11.5 degree Celsius, respectively. In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 22.8 degree Celsius and 8.3 degree Celsius.

In New Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 22.4 degree Celsius and 10.2 degree Celsius respectively.

The weather forecast for Uttarakhand on Wednesday is very light to light rain/thunder showers at a few places especially in the hills of the state. Very light to light rain/thunder showers has been forecast at isolated places in the higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts while the climate would remain dry in the rest of the state on Wednesday.

Singh said that the weather forecast for Dehradun for Wednesday is partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 33 degree Celsius and 15 degree Celsius respectively in the city on the day, he added.
