Slight twist to Western favourites
UNKNOWN to many, the Sri Petaling area is known for its variety of food from hawker favourites to hotel dining.
Those who feel like having some Western food within the comforts of an air-conditioned space can turn to Dine Coffee House at Hotel Sri Petaling.
The restaurant’s all-day menu offers Western dishes such as pasta, steak and burger, as well as local favourites such as fried mee mamak, curry laksa and fried rice.
To complement the menu, Hotel Sri Petaling executive sous chef Ahmad Nizam Saidin has created several additional dishes that are available for lunch and tea throughout March and April.
“We also want to give our regulars dining options, since many are here often for meetings and events. The prices are also kept affordable,” he said.
The lunch set features Beef Cordon Bleu accompanied with black pepper sauce (RM30 nett) and Grilled Dory Fish with Mozzarella (RM18 nett).
“The cordon bleu is my version of the dish that is usually made from chicken,” said Ahmad Nizam.
“I use good quality New Zealand beef tenderloin. The meat is marinated with salt and pepper then tenderised, before being rolled and stuffed with cheese and chicken slice. It is then coated with breadcrumbs and pan fried.”
On the grilled fish, he said he pairs it with mozzarella as the cheese topping is a crowd favourite.
Meanwhile, the tea set has Crab Cake (RM15 nett) and Chicken Enchiladas (RM15 nett).
“We make the crab cake ourselves. We use fresh meat from flower crab, and mix it with herbs and vegetables such as onion, celery, carrot and capsicum,” said Ahmad Nizam.
“The crab cake is served with a drizzle of curry mayo for a mildly spicy taste.”
Small eaters will like that the Chicken Enchiladas makes for a filling meal on its own, as the dish is also served with fries and salad.
It features grilled chicken, carrots, cabbage and onion sandwiched in tortilla wrap, topped with mozzarella.
Personally, I would have favoured a lighter dip or topping, as I enjoyed this dish without the heaviness of the cheese.
The lunch set is served with a glass of iced lemon tea, while the tea set comes with a cup of teh tarik.
Ahmad Nizam also recommended the Cili Padi Chicken Chop (RM15.90 nett), a signature dish from the restaurant’s all-day dining menu.
“What makes this dish different from other versions of chicken chop is our sauce,” said Ahmad Nizam.
“The sauce is made from bird’s eye chilli, chicken jus and some sauteed garlic. It has a mildly spicy taste for those who want a spicy kick to their meal.”
In addition, diners can wash down their meal with a glass of Morning Blush or Popeye’s Pop – the featured drinks for the promotion.
Those who want a raw and green juice can order the Popeye’s Pop featuring a blend of spinach and carrot, while the Morning Blush is a creamy mix of orange and pineapple juice with fresh milk.
Ahmad Nizam said Dine Coffee House’s lunch and tea promotions are updated every two months.
The current promotion is available until April 30.
The lunch and tea sets are available from Mondays to Saturdays. Lunch is served from noon to 2.30pm while tea is served from 3pm to 6pm.
