Defence Ministry: Mohd Irwan no longer has honorary title from Armed Forces

PETALING JAYA: Former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah (pic) no longer has the title of Honorary Major-General of the Territorial Army Regiment (Askar Wataniah).

In a statement Wednesday (Dec 5) the Defence Ministry said that his title was revoked on May 31 this year.

The ministry stated that a Armed Forces Council meeting on the same date noted that while the title holder can have his or her title revoked based on personal reasons, or if the individual no longer holds any positions which allows him or her to carry the title.

The ministry also noted that Dr Mohd Irwan was given the honorary title when he was appointed Treasury secretary-general on Oct 30, 2015.

Earlier in Parliament, Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong, in a reply to a supplementary question by Senator Alan Ling Sie Kiong, noted that he would bring the matter up to the council.

Dr Mohd Irwan was put on leave on May 14 and had his contract shortened to June 14 by the Pakatan Harapan government.
