PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has denied being involved in the production of a video on a voter registration campaign for the 14th general election (GE14), which it views as seditious.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah (pix) said in a statement Thursday that the production company had caused confusion for using the EC logo at the end of the video clip.

He said the EC would not hesitate to take legal action if the logo was used without permission in order to mislead the people.

“The EC warns those involved not to use the agency's logo for any production or campaign without its permission,” he said.

Mohd Hashim said that the video, which lasted one minute and 40 seconds, and in Mandarin, was seditious in tone and could incite hatred towards certain parties.

He said the video clip also featured controversial issues such as 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) and the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

He added that the EC had received numerous enquiries and complaints from various parties over the video clip, and whether it was produced by EC. - Bernama
