The Kedah Mentri Besar said the project was still in its initial stages and the state government was in talks with the private sector to develop the project.

He added that plans for the academy, to be built on 60ha land, include the construction of a racetrack.

“Initially, we provided 60ha of land, with 20ha for the badminton academy, another 20ha for the racetrack and the balance of 20ha kept for future use.

“At the moment, we are still talking with investors,” he said at the Kedah State Legislative Assembly here Tuesday.

Ahmad Bashah said this in reply to an additional question by Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir (PPBM-Ayer Hitam) who questioned whether plans for the Lee Chong Wei badminton academy in Kedah had been cancelled after Johor announced it would build an 'International Sports City' named after the country's most-decorated shuttler.
