1. King Felipe of Spain

King Felipe VI ascended the throne in June 2014 upon the abdication of his father, King Juan Carlos. Besides presiding over his kingdom, the 50-year-old’s most important job in recent months seems to be the part of referee between his mother, Sofía, and wife, Letizia.

Last spring, Queen Letizia appeared alongside her mother-in-law in a show of public reconciliation after a video emerged of the two women clashing on-camera publicly at an Easter mass. The video that made headlines in Europe showed Letizia physically blocking a photograph being taken of Sofía with her granddaughters. Felipe, who has been mending fences ever since, is a very involved father to the couple’s two daughters: Princesses Leonor, born in 2005, and Sofía, born in 2007 and is frequently photographed with them on various family outings.
