For the last few years, despite some memorable wins Andy Murray has always lagged behind Novak Djokovic in the world rankings. However, the Scot's excellent form in 2016 has put him within touching distance his great rival and the coveted world number one spot. His latest win at Shanghai Masters ensures a thrilling end to the season. After trailing by over 9,000 points in April, Murray's wins this summer have seen him close the gap on Djokovic to just under 2,500 points in ATP rankings. With Djokovic set to take time off before the BNP Paribas Masters at the end of the month, Murray has a chance to reduce the gap even further.
