
World Bank recommends gradual move towards targeted subsidies for M’sia
The World Bank has recommended that the Malaysian government phases out blanket and broad-based subsidies in favor of a targeted subsidy framework. Asked to comment on government spending on Friday (Feb 3), World Bank Group's lead economist for Malaysia Dr Apurva Sanghi suggested that there should be a gradual shift to targeted subsidies to avoid a sharp rise in inflation.
