Coronation Street fans fear legendary character Sally Metcalfe is leaving the ITV soap after 32 years.

This comes after Sally's big announcement on Monday night's episode, that she is moving away from the cobbles to stay with her husband Tim.

This has prompted speculation that actress Sally Dynevor, who has played the role since 1986, could be heading for the exit.

Sally faced an agonising decision after being forced into a corner by Tim, either leave her home or lose her husband.

She initially rebuffed her husband, but after some careful consideration decided to choose her man.

Sally broke the news to daughters Rosie and Sophie, who both told their mum they would be staying in The Street.

As well as leaving her friends and family behind, the factory worker will also have to relinquish her duties as Mayor of Weatherfield.

And Corrie fans were in uproar over her decision.

One tweeted: "Sally can't be leaving somebody stop her."

Another said hopefully: "What Sally leave the street, nah, it will never happen."

And another soap watcher said: "I prefer Sally and Tim together, but not off the street. Finkin' Phelan."

Sally has been in the soap for 32 years making her the ninth longest running character on the show.

But with Faye telling her dad that she can’t continue to live on the same street Phelan after he framed her adoptive mum Anna Windass, Tim agreed to help her to get away.

Sally, the mother of Rosie and Sophie and ex wife of mechanic Kevin Webster, is worrying that this could spell the end of their marriage and has tearfully vowed to go with him.

Fans of the show will be devastated if Sally quits the cobbles because of killer Pat.

But Tim is adamant he can't stay after the cunning builder helped send Anna to prison, making out that she was the one who pushed Faye's boyfriend Seb Franklin from a ladder.

Could Sally and Tim's relationship become Phelan's latest victim?
