Cheryl has teased that her upcoming comeback album will feature a Girls Aloud reunion.

The 2002 pop sensations have been musically estranged for 16 years but Cheryl has hinted that two of the band members have been working closely together.

According to the Sun, the 35-year-old has been working closely alongside friend and former bandmate Nicola Roberts.

The publication added that Roberts has co-written every song on the singer’s album with speculation that Roberts has lent her vocals to one of the tracks.

Speaking about her new music, the Fight for this Love singer said: “Nicola and I wrote every track together."

"It's been great working with one of my best friends, but I'm really proud of the album and excited for people to hear the new music. It's pretty much finished."

"At this stage, we're deciding what will be the first single. We're choosing between about three songs, but that's quite a nice problem to have."

“Thankfully I'm not looking at it, saying, 'Oh God, all this work and we don't have a hit record'. I think we do.”

The Geordie singer added: “I think she [Nicola] may appear somewhere. I can't wait to get it out there for people to hear. It's going to be a few months."

“We don't have a date yet but I'll tell you more soon."

The news comes after Roberts told how Cheryl is “on the mend” following her split from beau Liam Payne.

When quizzed about Cheryl’s wellbeing, Roberts revealed: “She’s good. She’s okay. She’s on the mend.”
