After 18 years on the cobbles, Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) has finally said goodbye to No.11 Coronation Street.

Her exit storyline was one of the most dramatic in the soap's history, with her villainous husband Pat Phlean, though he was presumed dead, coming back to wreak havoc and revenge on all those he hated.

It even led to him shooting poor Michelle Connor on her wedding day and his own daughter, Nicola Rubinstein, before Anna Windass, who he forced to have sex with him and then framed, stuck the knife into him and saw him shipped to the morgue in a body bag.

She arrived in 2000 with her two sons, Jason and Todd, and moved into a house she rented form Steve McDonald, her new boss who hired her to run the radio at taxi firm Street Cars.

Eileen started with Dennis Stringer, a biker who ended up leaving him for Janice Battersby, which caused an almighty row in the street where Eileen punched Janice.

She also formed some pretty strong bonds with Liz McDonald, Steve's mother, Steve himself and Nicola, with whom she left to live in Bristol with Nicola's newborn son, Zack.

Eileen also became close mates with her son Todd's boyfriend, the vicar Billy Mayhew, after her son left suddenly.

Gail and Eileen had numerous rows in the street, pub, and in their various houses, especially when they became in-laws when Sarah-Louise Platt and Jason got married.

Eileen was even a prime suspect when someone was stalking Gail, pretending to be her murderous ex-husband Richard Hillman, but it was later revealed to have been her son, David Platt, who was hoaxing his mother.

She was even thrown a goodbye party at the cab office, with Tim Metcalfe brandishing a bottle of bubbly to wave her off.

Eileen gave a heartfelt speech about the effect Pat had on all the street, which gives a clear indication for her departure as she was clearly unsure anyone on the cobbles could trust her again.
