Mary J Blige, Gerard Way collaboration announced

MARY J. BLIGE in a dress shirt and tie © Provided by MediaWorks NZ Limited Mary J Blige will star in The Umbrella Academy, a Netflix series being made by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way.

The 'Family Affair' singer and star of The Help will play Cha-Cha, described as a "ruthless and unorthodox hitwoman, who travels through time to kill assigned targets".

The Umbrella Academy is based on Way's comic book series of the same name and follows the a dysfunctional family of superheroes who work together to solve the mystery of their father's death.

The 10-episode series is set to launch on Netflix later this year.

Alongside Blige, the show is set to star Ellen Page, Robert Sheehan (Misfits) and Tom Hopper (Game of Thrones).

My Chemical Romance has been on hiatus since 2013.
