Stan Walker says a vision from God propelled him into his successful music career.

Ahead of Believers' Week on The Project, which will focus on faith, the musician shared the spiritual experience that turned him into a believer.

"It was quite a drastic moment for me because when my mum and dad had become Christians, I didn't like it," he said.

"I didn't believe in God - I hated church, it was boring. The only place I was allowed to go was youth group, and I went there one night.

"The pastor was like, 'Come up here, close your eyes', all that jazz. I was like, 'Here we go'."

It was at that moment a sceptical Walker says he felt at one with God for the very first time in his life.

"I had the most incredible experience that has led me to here - I can't explain it. My reality became something else. I'm here, alive, living my dream, because I had an experience with Jesus."

"I closed my eyes and I blacked out. Then I saw this stage with white lights and people, and I blinked and I was on the stage, singing to this crowd of thousands of people. I saw my family coming through the crowd and I heard this voice, like in the movies where they're like 'I am God' - it wasn't hardout like that, but it was so clear.

"It was like, 'I've called you to sing my people back home to me'. Then I blinked and I was in New Zealand on my marae singing.

"I blinked one more time and I saw all my family surrendering in a way where they were letting go of all their past hurt - all that shame.

"Then, two nights later, I was on that stage and it all happened. When I did Australian Idol and won, I saw 350 of my family members the same exact way. I was just like, 'Woah, this is for real'."

Believers' Week begins on Monday on The Project.
