42 Slateford Road, Edinburgh, Scotland, EH11 1PH

The Caledonian attitude to brewing beer is similar to that of drinking it—the longer you’ve been doing it, the more quality you demand. It is the sole survivor of some 40 breweries that once resided in Edinburgh.

Brewing secret

Caledonian is one of the last breweries to use traditional direct-fired coppers to boil the wort.

Caledonian 80 Shilling

beer style: Scottish Heavy
alcohol content: 4.2% ABV

Russett-brown and typically malt-led, with an underlay of raspberry and a suggestion of chocolate.

Deuchars IPA

alcohol content: 3.8% ABV

A strident hop aroma, with citrus notes and a degree of maltiness that never wavers.
