747-56 Mukabaki, Nobeoka, 882-0090, Japan

Interest in this sleepy little micro was enlivened after the election of maverick prefectural governor Higashikokubaru, whose corruption-fighting efforts have won him immense public support. A cartoon likeness of the governor adorns Hideji’s Stout. Hideji beer has improved recently, along with the fortunes of Miyazaki prefecture.

Hideji Stout

beer style: Stout
alcohol content: 4.1% ABV

Dry, with a fair measure of tartness, the beer develops a roastiness and soft texture as it warms.

Smoking Mole Ale

beer style: Amber Ale
alcohol content: 4.2% ABV

Bright amber gold, with a tangy rich malt flavor, accented by plummy fruit notes. Hops are subdued in a more British interpretation.
