Eighteen years after opening the country’s first microbrewery in an old cider factory in Nelson, former All Black rugby player Terry McCashin sold the Mac’s brand to Lion Breweries in 1999. Since then the beer range has been extended and production split between Nelson and the Shed 22 brewery, on the Wellington waterfront.

Sassy Red

beer style: New World Best Bitter

A sweetish amber brew with a leafy, hop-sack aroma and suggestions of toffee, nuts, chocolate, and toast.

Black Mac

beer style: Dry Stout
alcohol content: 4.8% ABV

A full-bodied, flavorsome, stoutlike dark lager, with roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, and liquorice.
