901 Southwest Simpson Avenue, Bend, Oregon, 97702, USA

What began with a brewpub in 1988 in this outdoor-vacation town quickly expanded with a separate production facility that’s grown into one of the nation’s largest craft breweries. As well as selling a full line of beers with notable hop character throughout the western US, Deschutes still operates its original brewpub in downtown Bend and recently opened another in Portland. A Bond Street Series of special beer releases, developed “at the pub”, has further widened the brewery’s portfolio.

Brewing secret

Deschutes maintains that the character of its beer is due in part to its use of whole hop flowers.

Mirror Pond

beer style: Pale Ale
alcohol content: 5.2% ABV

Grapefruit and fresh flowers at the outset. Light, clean biscuit on the palate, with generous hop flavor.

Black Butte Porter

beer style: Porter
alcohol content: 5.2% ABV

Well-balanced and complex, aromas and flavors blend roasted coffee beans, chocolate, and dark fruit with signature acidic notes.

The Abyss

beer style: Imperial Stout
alcohol content: 11% ABV

Brewed with liquorice and molasses, and partially aged in oak barrels. A cornucopia of intense flavors, held together by wonderful texture.

Inversion IPA

beer style: India Pale Ale
alcohol content: 6.8% ABV

A swirl of hop aromas (particularly orange zest). Solid, biscuity malt holds its own against bracing bitterness.
