2401 Tulane Avenue, New Orleans, LA, 70119

The l00-year-old Dixie Brewery was the last survivor of New Orleans’ once-flourishing brewing tradition, with some of its beers aged in historic cypress barrels. That is, until Hurricane Katrina (and the subsequent looters) devastated it in 2005. It’s not clear when it might reopen. Meanwhile its beers are being made at the Minhaus Craft Brewery in Wisconsin.

Blackened Voodoo

beer style: Schwarzbier
alcohol content: 5% ABV

In 1991, this dark lager was briefly banned in Texas because of the voodoo references on its label. Smooth and light-bodied for southern drinking, with chocolate and toffee notes throughout.
